Equipment finance

Excavators, forklifts, machinery, medical and dental. Paid for by the work it does.

Chattel mortgage, lease or rental, with payments sized to the asset's working life and what it brings in. New or used, from a dealer, a private seller or an auction, through lenders that know what the gear is worth second-hand and price it accordingly.

Who we help

Different gear, different lenders, same job: keep you working

Trades and construction Excavators, tippers, compactors, scaffolding, the lot. Often bought in a hurry for a job that's already started. We know which lenders can move at that pace and which ones will want a valuation first.
Workshops and manufacturers CNC machines, lasers, presses and injection moulding. Expensive, specialised and slow to resell, so the lender matters. We go to the ones that understand the equipment, not just the balance sheet.
Medical, dental and allied health Chairs, imaging, lasers, fit-outs. Registered professionals usually qualify for sharper terms and lighter paperwork, and some lenders will fund a new practice before it has a trading history.

What we finance

If it has a serial number, we can usually finance it

  • Earthmoving and civil
  • Forklifts and materials handling
  • Agricultural machinery
  • CNC, lasers and workshop machinery
  • Medical, dental and veterinary
  • Fit-outs and shopfitting
  • Catering and hospitality
  • IT, technology and software
  • Used equipment, dealer or private
  • Auction purchases

Fit-outs, software and other assets that can't be towed away are financed too; they just lean more on the business's trading than on the asset.

How equipment finance is usually put together
Chattel mortgage, lease or rentalChattel mortgage is the common choice when you want to own the asset and claim the GST on the price in your next activity statement. A lease or rental keeps it off your balance sheet and can suit gear you'll replace in a few years. Your accountant confirms which suits your books.
Term and balloonTerms commonly run two to seven years depending on how long the asset holds its value. A balloon lowers the monthly payment and is set against what the equipment should be worth at the end, not a number pulled from the air.
Delivery, install and trainingMany lenders will fund the whole supplier invoice, not just the machine: delivery, installation, commissioning and training. Ask for the quote to be itemised that way.
Tax treatmentDepreciation and any instant write-off thresholds change from year to year. We'll flag what's current; your accountant confirms what applies in the year you buy.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I buy used, from a private seller or at auction? Yes. The lender will want the asset identified, usually by serial number, plus an inspection or valuation and clear title. Most set a limit on how old the equipment can be at the end of the term, so we check age against term before you bid or pay a deposit.
I've just started the business. Will anyone fund it? Often, yes, particularly for equipment with a strong resale market and for registered professionals. A deposit, industry experience or a contract for the work all help. The rate is usually higher than for an established business, and we tell you that up front.
Do I need financials? Not always. Replacement equipment and established ABNs often qualify for low doc options based on bank statements or an accountant's letter. Full financials usually unlock a better rate, so if you have them, we use them.
Can the loan cover delivery, installation and training? Usually, if it's on the supplier's invoice. Ask the supplier to itemise the quote and we present it to lenders that fund the full amount.
How quickly can it be done? It depends on the lender and how complete the paperwork is. Tell us the date the gear needs to be on site and we plan the approval and settlement around it, including the inspection and insurance the lender will want first.
What does it cost to use a broker? The lender pays us a commission when the loan settles. On some asset finance we also charge an origination fee of up to $1,990, which is set out in a credit quote before you commit to anything, along with whether it is paid up front or added to the loan. Full details are in our credit guide.
