Business funding

Overdrafts, business loans and working capital. Matched to how your business actually trades.

A tax bill, a slow quarter, a big order, a second site. We work out whether an overdraft, a term loan, invoice finance or an unsecured facility fits, which lenders will say yes at a sensible price, and whether your property needs to be part of it at all.

Why businesses come to us

Three reasons we see most weeks

A tax bill or a cash squeeze The ATO wants paying, a big customer is paying late, or payroll lands before the invoices do. Short-term, sized to the gap, and structured so it doesn't turn into a permanent cost.
Growth you can see coming Stock for the season, a second site, two more staff, a contract that needs funding before it pays. Longer terms, lower rates, and lenders that like the plan behind the number.
Replacing an expensive facility A merchant cash advance or a short loan that's eating the margin. We look at whether a secured loan, an overdraft or a consolidation brings the cost down and the pressure off.

The options

Six ways to fund a business. We'll tell you which one you actually need.

Business overdraft A limit you draw on when you need it and pay interest on only what you use. The right tool for timing gaps, not for buying a truck.
Unsecured business loan Fast, no property involved, priced accordingly. Lenders decide largely on bank statement conduct and time trading.
Secured business loan Backed by property or other assets. Lower rates, longer terms and larger amounts, with more paperwork and more time.
Invoice finance Get paid most of an invoice now and the balance when your customer pays. Suits businesses with good debtors on long terms.
Line of credit A revolving facility for recurring needs, usually secured. Draw, repay, draw again, without a new application each time.
Equipment and fit-out Vehicles, machinery, fit-outs and technology financed against the asset itself, keeping your working capital free. See equipment finance.

How we approach it

Fast money costs more. We show you both.

Unsecured lenders can move in days and charge for it. Secured lenders take longer and charge less. Most owners are offered one or the other depending on who they happened to call. We put both on the table with the true cost over the term, so the choice is yours and it's an informed one.

We also tell you when the honest answer is to wait, pay something down first or fix the ATO position, because that changes which lenders will deal and at what price.

What lenders look at
  • Time trading, and whether turnover is steady, growing or lumpy
  • Bank statement conduct: dishonours, overdrawn days, how cash moves
  • The ATO portal: debt, payment plans and whether lodgements are current
  • Credit files for the business and its directors
  • Security on offer, and whether you want to offer any

None of this is checked until you choose a lender and ask us to lodge.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I have to put my house up? Not necessarily. Unsecured facilities exist for established businesses with clean statements, and some lenders take the business assets or debtors instead. Property gets you the lowest rate, so we show you the price of keeping it out and let you decide.
I owe the ATO. Is that the end of it? No. Some lenders fund ATO debt directly, and a payment plan already in place helps with most. What hurts more is lodgements that are overdue, so getting those current is often the first step.
How much can a business borrow unsecured? It scales with turnover and how the bank statements read. There's no useful single number; the quick scenario gives us enough to say roughly where you'd land before any application is made.
How quickly can funds arrive? Unsecured facilities can settle within days once statements are in. Secured loans take longer because a valuation and documents are involved. If there's a date that matters, tell us and we work back from it.
What does it cost to use a broker? In most cases the lender pays us a commission and you pay us nothing directly. Where a fee applies, it is disclosed in writing before you commit to anything. Full details are in our credit guide.
